Village Services

Trash, Recycling & Utilities

Trash collection, holiday schedules, bulk trash vouchers, recycling drop-off, leaf collection, and utility services for Village residents.

Trash Collection

Rumpke is the Village's trash service provider. As of December 2024, the rate was $17.67 per month per unit, after a $1.00 per month increase.

Questions and concerns about trash service should be directed to Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171.

Holiday Collection

Collection time may vary during holiday weeks, so place trash and recycling at the curb the evening before your scheduled collection.

Rumpke does not delay service for:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Presidents' Day
  • Juneteenth

Rumpke does delay service for Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and the Christmas and New Year holidays. On those weeks:

  • There is no collection on the holiday itself.
  • Service runs one day late for the remainder of that week.
  • Friday's collection moves to Saturday.
  • The normal schedule returns the following week.

Bulk Trash Vouchers

Bulk trash vouchers are available for pick-up at Village Hall.

Recycling

Recycling bins are located at the Village Municipal Building, in the parking lot at the back of the building. Please:

  • Break down boxes before placing them in the bins.
  • Do not place items that cannot be recycled, such as Styrofoam, in the bins — a complete list of what is and is not accepted is printed on the front of the bins.
  • If the bins are full, please do not leave items on the ground beside them.
  • The County asks that recyclables be dumped loosely rather than in bags.

The bins accept cans, glass, plastic bottles, cardboard, and paper. Recyclables are collected on Tuesday and Friday.

Other area drop-off locations:

  • Cloverleaf High School, 8525 Friendsville Road
  • Medina Solid Waste, 8700 Lake Road
  • Westfield Township, 6699 Buffham Road

See all Medina County recycling drop-off locations at recyclemedinacounty.com .

Leaf Collection

Regular leaf pickup begins the week of October 21. If an abundance of leaves falls before that date, pickup starts on an as-needed basis.

  • Place leaves at the curb no further than 6 feet from the road.
  • Where a ditch runs along the pavement edge, place leaves beside the ditch rather than in it.
  • Do not place leaves in the street, behind trees, blocking mailboxes or hydrants, or over rocks — keep a 6-foot buffer from these obstructions.

This is leaf collection only: no sticks, branches, stones, mulch, leaf bags, flower pots, grass clippings, ornamental grass, or garden debris. Non-leaf items in the mix will result in no pickup.

The leaf crew runs its route several times per week, so residents are asked to be patient.

Hydrant Flushing

The Village's hydrant flushing is carried out by Westfield Fire and Rescue, who can be reached at 330-887-5541. Flushing is an annual maintenance program.

Electric Aggregation

The Village of Westfield Center operates an electric aggregation program for residents. The contract was renewed at a rate of $0.0682 per kWh, starting June 2024 and running through May 2027. Residents enroll by calling 1-866-636-3749.

To compare other suppliers, use the PUCO Apples to Apples utility comparison tool at energychoice.ohio.gov .

The program's supplier will be listed here once confirmed.

Sewer

Sewer service is the responsibility of the Village's Board of Public Affairs. Sewer bills are based on water consumption and issued bimonthly. See the Board of Public Affairs page for the full billing schedule, the sewer service application, the automatic payment forms, and the deduct meter specifications.

Water

Water service is provided by the Medina County Sanitary Engineers at 330-723-9585. The Village does not provide water.

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Westfield Wastewater Treatment Plant can be reached at 330-887-5025, which is also the Village Superintendent's number.

Fireworks

The Village has a local ordinance prohibiting the sale, possession, transportation, or exhibition of class 1.3G and 1.4G fireworks within the Village. This is a Village regulation residents need to know — read the full text in the codified ordinances at codelibrary.amlegal.com .

Street Light Outages

Residents report street light outages directly to Ohio Edison rather than to the Village — see the reporting instructions and link on the Forms & Permits page.
